HORSEWORLD

Preserving the Past, Living the Present, Protecting the Future….

Taking the lid off Bristol’s best kept secret

Hidden on the outskirts of Bristol, at Whitchurch, is one of the West Country’s newest visitor attractions. HorseWorld has been developed by the Friends of Bristol Horses Society to become a quality visitor centre to promote the work of the society to a wider audience. One of Britain’s largest charitable equine rescue sanctuaries and retirement homes the Society was formed almost 50 years ago to provide shelter and retirement for working horses that had fallen victim to industrial mechanisation and is know home to over 220 horses, ponies and donkeys.

Located in a group of attractive listed Mendip stone farm buildings dating back to the early nineteenth century, Staunton Manor Farm has been carefully restored to its former glory and brought back into use to give HorseWorld a wide range of modern facilities, while still retaining the character and splendour of a past era and the feel of a friendly yet authentic rural environment.

Opened to the public at Easter last year, HorseWorld has proved to be hugely popular and was confirmed as a South West Tourism ‘Quality Assured Visitor Attraction’ in October.

As well as the opportunity to meet many of the rescued horses, ponies and donkeys a whole host of other attractions in the beautiful listed Mendip stone farm buildings include interactive Exhibition of the Horse and Heritage Tack Museum, film presentation of the societies work, horse parades, children’s play area, “Noah’s Ark” companion animals, nature trail, picnic area, restaurant and tearoom, plus gift shop.

Special events are organised through out the year including Teddy Bears’ Picnic weekend on June 23rd and 24th with lots of fun, games and competitions plus free entry for children accompanied by their teddy bears. Wild West Weekend on August 11th and 12th will feature shoot outs with the Bristol Lawmen as well as BBQ, fancy dress and fun and games. Why not treat your father to a special Sunday Lunch on Fathers Day, Sunday June17th, in a unique and relaxing setting.
