The Red Lodge
This is a house hidden among the day to day living of modern Bristol, it is called
The Red Lodge.
It is an Elizabethan house built about 1590.It is the last surviving suite of 16th century rooms in Bristol.
You will see carved oak panelling, ornate plasterwork ceilings and amazing carved stone chimneypiece.
There is also the Tudor style knot garden to see.
About 1730 the exterior and some of the rooms were modernised and you will be able to see the house furnished in the style of both periods.
In 1854 a lady called Mary Carpenter (1807-1877) set up the country's first girls reform school.
Also on some days actors are bought in to recreate life back then, so keep an eye out for them.
